KKES @ 10: CLO’s STATEMENT
I have always been fascinated by the serenity, quietness and seriousness of the then University of Ife, Ile-Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife). It was all that motivated and endeared me to intellectual development and academic environment. It has therefore been my dream to establish a school in semblance of my Alma Mater. The Kith & Kin Schools concept was concretized from the affirmation and support of my wife Kemi, who was then an inspector of education at the Lagos State Ministry of Education and the responses and performances of my children to the tutorial and my toil in teaching and motivating them from their pre-school through their secondary and tertiary education. Invariably, I discovered my talent and ability in motivational teaching and mentoring children to learn to discover themselves. In view of my desire to serve humanity, and for good cause, I felt compelled to applying my discovered talent on a large scale for the greater benefit of larger number of children and adolescents. Since 1997, to the Glory of God, I have soaked my spirit, heart and soul in the Kith & Kin Project. I dream of it; think about it, write about it and much more read about other successful schools. I have also cultivated the habit of attending workshops, seminars and conferences to learn the modern and best practice in schools management in and out of the country. In addition, my enrolment in the Owner Manager Programme (OMP) and the Chief Executive Programme (CEP) of the Lagos Business School has equipped me with great skils and knowledge that have contributed to the rapid growth and performance of Kith & Kin Educational Schools. The Primary School commenced teaching in 1997/98 with a student population of 17 pupils with an average tuition fees of #3,950 per annum and four permanent teaching staff and my children as supportive teaching staff. As at the end of the 2006/2007 academic session, our student population had increased to 122 pupils with an average tuition fees of #52,500 per annum with fifteen teachers. Our Primary School is equipped with special teaching resources, aids, facilities, including the computer resources. Our teaching methodology is fully Montessori based. We have invested massively in the Montessori resources and the special room is equipped with necessary equipment and materials. The Secondary School started in the 2003/2004 academic year with 36 students and six teachers. The tuition fee then was #27,000 per year. As at the end of 2006/2007 academic year, our student population had increased to 190 with twenty-seven (27) teachers. The average tuition fee was #84,000 per year. The strength of our Secondary School is premised on; the commitment and competence of our teachers, the teaching aids, facilities, Laboratories and our conducive environment for a learning organisation to grow. Sports, dancing, creativity and other co-curricular activities are given equal prominence with the subjects taught. Our pioneer secondary students, just graduated in July, 2007 after writing their NECO and WASC SSCE examinations. The two schools (Primary and Secondary) were inspected and approved by the Lagos State Ministry of Education in 2003 and 2006 respectively. To commemorate our 10th anniversary, a 300-bed capacity ultra-modern hostel with a conference hall, cybercafé, variety shop, buttery and other conveniences has been completed and ready for commissioning. A 100KVA generator has been procured to provide stable electricity. Within the next five years, we hope to have begun work on the establishment of our new and bigger Lekki Campus site, Our modest achievements have been made possible by the Grace of God. TO HIM be the Glory. Some individuals have impacted and mentored our dream. I like to recall with thanks the services of our former Heads of the Primary School Mrs. Awoyemi, Mr. Nwanze, Mrs. Atilola, Ms Lara Willoughby and Mrs. Rita Ibironke. I must also thank the former Secondary School Principals: Mr. Ade Omoyajowo, Mr. Adeniji and Mrs. Mabel Ale, who is now the Vice Principal (VP) (General Administration). Finally, I like to thank immensely those wonderful people who have contributed to re-defining and articulating our vision and mission. The Chairman of our Governing Council, Prof. (Otunba) Femi Oludimu and all members of the Board, the ever supportive Parents, the PTA Executives, the innocent pupils and the students’ contributions, and our host community have all shaped our focus and made our modest achievements possible. Our teaching and non-teaching staff deserve a special mention and commendation for their buy-in into our vision and working together to achieve them. On behalf of all stakeholders in the Kith & Kin Educational Schools, we promise our best is yet to come; as we shall continue to strive “to be the best provider of quality and comprehensive foundation education that can lead our children to leadership positions in the emerging global economy”. So help us God.

NEW YEAR 2008 OPEN LETTER TO KITH & KIN VISION PARTNERS AND COLLEAGUES – FROM THE CLO.
Dear Partners and Colleagues, I am indeed most happy and grateful to the most high GOD to welcome you all back to work after the holidays. I wish you all a fulfilling and a very positive and productive 2008. GOD has preserved and kept us together for a purpose. It is therefore neither by accident nor undestined that we are here. GOD has brought us together to accomplish a purpose. The purpose is to influence and assist children to identify their potentials and abilities and use them to serve GOD and society. The releva40nt question to ask at this stage is,”Are you qualified, prepared and totally committed to serve GOD’S purpose in KITH & KIN?” We started the 2007 /2008 academic year with the celebration of our 10th year anniversary. The events and ceremonies were well attended and memorable. The governor of Lagos state His Excellency Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) who was represented by his wife honoured our invitation to commission our new hostel. In December 2007 the governor accompanied with a large entourage visited the school. It was a rare honour we most cherish as both students and staff were exceedingly inspired by the visit. In appreciation of the contributions of all members of staff to our modest achievements and in the spirit of the 10th year celebration, the school management approved the promotion of all members of staff. The across board promotion was meant to appreciate and motivate further staff for greater commitment to excellent performance. However there was an unpleasant event in the first term of the session which I will like to refer to. Some of our colleagues have to be separated from the school summarily. The decision was a fall out of the in-house inspection and quality control exercise carried out. Some of our colleagues were found to be totally uncommitted and unprofessional in their teaching. Their performance was far below expectation. The management had to take the decision to separate them. It was the most agonising and difficult decision to make. The lessons of that exercise should not be lost on us. As professionals and committed teachers we must be up and doing to give our students thorough education. A mediocre and non- challant teacher cannot produce students with excellent results. Genius students would at best come up with average results. Kith & kin schools is employees- friendly but as a corporate organisation we shall continue to be very focused, firm and proactive to meet the challenges of our vision and mission. As a quick reminder, our goal is primarily to produce students with excellent performance in: 1. Examination results with distinction. 2. Skill development in IT, sports, arts, drama, communication and leadership. 3. Discipline in etiquette, character, and service. Having set and agreed on these goals, it has become therefore voluntarily compulsory for all employees and indeed teachers in Kith & Kin to align and balance personal life style to professional demand to fit into our culture. Our culture demands professionalism, competence, total commitment and continuous self education. We should be passionate about our work and make each child /student find learning interesting, fun, and applicable. Our joy and intrinsic reward that can make us live a truly happy life is to see our children/students excel in their respective potentials and abilities. To achieve our goal, the actions individual teacher will have to take can be enumerated in a simple and sequential order as follows: 1. Prepare a good note of lesson with teaching aids. 2. Attend classes promptly and regularly. 3. Do child-centred and interactive teaching. 4. Mark students notes 5. Give class work and projects and mark. 6. Give homework and mark. 7. Evaluate with standard questions. 8. Call additional tutorial session where necessary. If these steps are religiously followed it will be easy for a vigilant teacher to categorise his /her students as: 1.Genius 2. Hyperactive 3. Passive 4. Laggards. The teacher will have to use his professional training and experience to meet with these challenges and bridge the gap as much as possible between the students in the class. A good teacher is expected to call for help to handle difficult situation. Dear partners and colleagues, I have used the period of the holiday to reflect on our vision, mission, process and actions and I have come to the conclusion that we individually and collectively need to ask ourselves “Why am I here today?” If GOD’S purpose has to be accomplished in our lives we have to apply our GOD’S given talent and potential diligently to glorify GOD and to benefit mankind. The meat of my address is meant to set the modality of our work ethics and new year resolution for 2008 in Kith & Kin. Your acceptance to remain as a member of staff after today is an acceptance of this charter. Finally, in doing your work please bring in your natural style, personal initiatives, recommendations for improvement, flexibility and experience. Learn from one another, work as a team. We will achieve more if we all work together and diligently contribute our best to the task at hand. We can achieve the best national WAEC/SSCE results. Once again I wish you all a wonderful new year. Kaoli Olusanya Chief Learning Officer.
